How it Began
In 1998 my husband Jason, sommelier and wine educator, created Twin Cities Wine Education, a business that's still going strong delivering top-level wine education and public tasting events. Several years ago we expanded the business by creating The Flying Grape, a wine tour company. While traveling I always had my sketchbook, drawing and recording the ancient gnarled vines I found hidden in the vineyards or doodling my visual tasting notes. The more I drew, the more curiosity our guests had regarding travel journals and art. It seemed only natural to combine our talents to create Art Vine Voyage, a genre of tours specializing in the love of wine, food, culture and art, all ensconced in the most amazing and beautiful wine regions of the world.
Art Vine Voyage is the ultimate experience for travelers seeking to pair their passion for wine with artistic exploration. Our tours are carefully planned for groups of 12 or less, allowing us to visit small, family owned and operated wineries that simply can't (or won't) accommodate larger groups. Traveling with us takes you beyond the vineyard by combining immersive wine tours with the creative practice of art journaling, turning every adventure into a personal masterpiece.
Our curated itineraries invite you to slow down and savor the moment- both the flavors in your glass and the creative sparks they ignite. Meet passionate winemakers, explore hidden wineries, and learn the history behind each bottle, all while journaling your experience in a way that deepens your connection to the places you visit. Whether you're an experienced artist or a curious beginner, we provide creative prompts and tips to help you capture every scene, sip, and story.
Art Journaling: A Path to Creativity
Here, wine travel becomes more than a journey — it becomes an art form. Your journal will be a collection of tastes, textures, and memories that reflect the beauty of the world through your eyes. This is more than just a trip; it’s a creative experience that will leave you with lasting works of art and unforgettable moments.
Your next adventure is a blank page, ready to be filled with flavors, memories, and creativity. Let us guide you in turning wine and travel into a vibrant, lasting masterpiece.
But Angela, I'm not "creative"!
I can't even draw a straight line!
That's just fine, straight lines are overrated! Artists and non-artists alike are all welcome. The only thing I ask is that you travel with an open mind and bring your curiosity in your carry-on; we don't want it getting lost during a layover!
These are truly techniques for EVERYONE. I encourage expression over perfection. Drawing isn’t solely about replicating reality flawlessly. In my experience that is very little of it. Drawing is a means of self-exploration, communication, and creativity. It’s about conveying ideas, emotions, and perspectives. My exercises encourage individuals to explore unconventional solutions and think innovatively. As an added bonus this mindset translates into the business realm, allowing for creative problem-solving and fresh approaches to challenges. It’s a mindset shift that allows you to see new potentials in the world around you as well as within yourself.
So bring me your crooked lines. I will show you how wonderful they are and light a creative fire in you that you didn’t know you had. Sounds like an amazing souvenir to bring home, huh?
